Our History

Westlawn’s journey began when local Grafton retailers couldn’t secure financing for their customers’ essential purchases like sewing machines and televisions. In response, Bill and Peter Dougherty founded Westlawn to meet this need. Over the years, we have expanded our services and grown significantly, always keeping our clients’ needs at the forefront.

In 1972, Mike Dougherty joined the family business, leading to the establishment of a full-fledged finance company. In 1998, Westlawn Finance Limited purchased the portfolio of a broker exiting the Grafton market, and Westlawn Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd was born.

Westlawn Insurance Brokers has a proud history of helping clients protect what matters most. Built on strong local knowledge and a genuine understanding of regional communities, we have grown from our Northern NSW roots into one of the region’s leading insurance broking businesses. Our network now spans from Coffs Harbour in the south to Walcha in the west and Robina in the north, allowing us to combine local service and knowledge with broad industry expertise.
